Actually argued with the teacher about it once. Me: Sometimes a red door is just a door. It doesn't have to symbolize anything. maybe it was their favorite color! Teacher: no it symbolizes their hatred of whatever whatever... Me: how do you know? Did you ask the author? No you didn't because he probably died before you were born! Yeah... I got detention for that one.
